Ancient methods of communicating a culture, steeped in an earth-friendly feminine-centered
spirituality, are expressed in the unique harmonies. Many of the songs
they perform are at least 1000 years old and feature lyrics that center
around the truly ancient Latvian heritage, culture, seasonal celebrations,
rituals, and rites of passage. Lately, Sudrabavots has been drawn to learn
songs about the use of singing to quell disharmony and about the power
of women, often merging both themes in the same song. None of the performers
are trained singers. This truly is folk music!
The seven members of this unique and talented chorus bring a deep and rich mix
of Northern European style to their melodies, along with a heavy dose
of Latvian history. Though the history behind this rising folk group is
interesting,
what will most likely strike you is the stunning harmony and beautiful
resonance these voices in unison achieve.
The members of Sudrabavots are Daina Bolsteins, Zile Dzenitis, Kristina Kilpe, Karlis Lidaks, Andris Rutins, Daiga Rutins, Brigit Viksnins, Helen Viksnins, Ingrid Viksnins, and Peter Viksnins
